There are two kinds of striping in lawn care. Stripe patterns when you mow, and stripe patterns when you fertilize. One is desirable, and one is not. Its important to apply the same amount of fertilizer consistently throughout the yard when fertilizing, in order to avoid the bad kind of striping. Broadcast spreaders make this a lot easier to achieve than the older drop spreaders. In the picture on the right, you can see the dark green areas have a proper amount of fertilizer, while the duller green areas didn't get enough, and no I didn't fertilize the lawn pictured to the right....
